I had the child hood dream of becoming a pilot, to be able to fly an airplane. On 7th Of November 1999 I went to a local flying school which is also a Cessna Pilot Center and took a discovery flight in which the Trainer took me up in a Skyhawk SP for about an hour and let me fly the plane. He made me sit in the Pilot seat and actually turned over the controls to me once we were over the practice area at 1500 ft. Now the next step will be to get enrolled in the center and work towards my Private Pilot license.

Apart from this I have also tried my hands at Control Line Model Flying. My piper club has so far made 3 flight attempts and two crash landings and is now pretty much retired.

My Training

Finally on 17th Feb 2000 I registered my self at the Henley's Training Academy. I got my Cessna Student Pilot's Kit which Includes my logbook, A Flight calculator(an improvised version of slide rule), a workbook, condensed Pilot Handbook and some other ground school books.

Heeding to the suggestion of Robert MacKay, Editor of the MicroWings I bought a pair of CH Pro Pedals and Pilot Pro Flight Yoke. These coupled with the MS Flight Simulator 2000 makes the Sim flying very realistic. And my Instructor is already impressed by the improvements I am showing.

I have one question that I have been trying to get the answer for since some time now. Most of my Dream to Fly was when I was in India. I have this desire deep in my heart - to be able to fly from Delhi Airport to Dehra-Dun with my family. I have tried to contact a couple of sources, including the Director General of Civil Aviation India., but to no avail.
    I will appreciate if any body can answer the following question about the same.
  1. Can I rent planes for private use in India? If yes where and how in Delhi or surrounding areas.
  2. Can I fly with my FAA Private Pilot License in India?
